Does It Hurt?

First and foremost question, is tattoo removal procedure painful?

Answer, it feels much like the tattooing a brief moment of mild dull pain like a pinch followed by a feeling of warmth in the treated areas.  We do offer anesthetic gel and depending on your tolerance, you may or may not need to use this but as a preventive measure we cool your skin before and during the treatment to help numb the area being treated.

How long is the procedure?

It takes longer to remove a tattoo than it took to have the tattoo applied. It takes from 4 to sometimes 12 sessions 10 weeks apart. This all depends on the number of colors used in your tattoo, the size of the design the type of ink used and the age of tattoo.

Smaller tattoos and especially Black tattoos only requires 4-6 treatments to remove, they are easier to remove as compare to  larger multi-colored designs which may need 6-12 or more treatments.  After several treatments, you will notice a temporary whitening of the area that has been treated. Over time, the tattoo fades and the skin returns to your normal color.

What are the precautions during treatment?

As with all tattoo laser treatment/laser treatment, you must avoid exposure to direct sunlight before treatment, during treatment and for some weeks following treatment.

Risks and complications

Side effects are usually temporary and mild, though can be more severe and longer term.

They include;

Scarring

Although rare and more likely with darker skin types but it can occur with all skin types and especially if the required precautions are not followed.

Hyper pigmentation

Darker skin can occur because of inflammation caused by laser treatment and a brown mark arises that usually takes some months to fade with the assistance of lightening agents.

Hypo pigmentation

Laser treatment can cause a loss of skin pigmentation in the treated area.  This pigmentation usually returns but can take up to 12 months and in very rare cases can take so long that is considered everlasting.
